#WhatsYourBB? Garnier SA is looking for you!

Garnier has recruited me, & a few other bloggers to help spread the BB love with this awesome #WhatsYourBB campaign.

During this campaign you can look forward to reviews, spot prizes, & most importantly the search for 1 special lady to join me for a special pamper day with Garnier & the 5 other participating bloggers & their chosen readers in Johannesburg. Sounds fun right?!

While the spot prizes will happen at random, the actual search for the girl who join me & Garnier for the pamper day will take place from now until 31 January 2014

What do you have to do to join me for the pamper day?

Well, I am targeting girls with oily/combination skin (not sure if that's you - read below). All you have have to do is submit a motivation (tell me a bit about your skin issues; why you should be chosen; where you're from etc) & a picture to blog@brettrobson.com
**Please note, you do not have to reside in Jhb to enter. We will take care of logistics :)

How to identify if you have Oily/Combination Skin?

If a person has oily skin, the skin is usually oily over the whole face. If only their T-panel is oily, i.e. the forehead, down the nose and chin, then they have combination to oily skin. Oily skin needs to be hydrated, by drinking water. Oily skin naturally produces too much oil, so a light & watery moisturizer is recommended.

Beauty Review: Skin Repbulic Neck & Decolletage Repair

Skin Republic sent me this Neck & Dcolletage Anti-Aging Treatment a little while ago, & I only just tried it this week! I usually take very good care of my skin but I must admit that I never really pay attention to my dcolletage area. Well not special attention at least.

Ok so let me tell you a bit about this treatment.

This is a 20 minute treatment where by you place a mask over you neck & dcolletage area. The mask is something like a wet-wipe, except it has all sorts of ingredients in it like Vitamin C & E, Aloe, Green Tea, Witch Hazel, & Marine Collagen.

As this is an anti-aging treatment, it aims to improve tone & elasticity in this ever so delicate area. It is also said to visibly lift your skin, as well as reduce the appearance of freckles & age spots.

Now while I am quite young, I don't usually use anti-aging products, and so I cannot comment on that aspect of the treatment, however, I can tell you about my experience with it.

I loved how moisturized my dcolletage area was after usage. As I mentioned before, I don't pay any special to this area of my body so this was a treat. The skin was also very soft & supple, with a glow. Like that feeling after you leave an amazing facial?! Well like a facial except just for my neck & dcolletage lol.

Most products will not give you instant results with regard to anti-aging, however with continuous usage you may start to see a real improvement in the elasticity & tone of your skin.

If you would like more info on this product & other Skin Republic products click here.

And if you would like to purchase this product, try your nearest Clicks, Edgars, Red Square & Dis-Chem. And if you're an online junkie like me, click here.

Have you tried it? Let me know what you think :)

Beauty Review: Ponds BB Cream

When it comes to BB Cream -  I am a self-confessed addict! I have tried a few, & for me what determines whether I will use a BB Cream again are a few different things:
- What is the coverage like?
- Is it too heavy, or light & breathable?
- Does it leave my skin looking oily? Do I HAVE TO wear powder?
- Does it cover my dark circles decently?

The Ponds BB Cream did not disappoint me at all. The coverage is like that of a tinted moisturizer. It is light & leaves my skin looking natural but still covers up my uneven skin-tone. It has a SPF of 30 - which is great! Although I do use an SPF 50 moisturizer on a daily basis. My skin was not oily, which is awesome. So, all i really needed to add was my concealer. Good right?

Overall I enjoy this BB Cream. It's a great product & only costs R89.99 so it's great value for money.

Beauty Review: Stila IN THE LIGHT Palette

The Stila palettes have had everybody raving about them & had me feeling MAJOR FOMO! I started asking EVERYONE on twitter & Facebook which of the palettes they had or preferred. The most common answer was the IN THE LIGHT palette. And now that i have it, I can absolutely understand why. While the other palettes are all great with a beautiful range of colors, this is by far the most wearable & "universally friendly" palette. I can easily see women with of all skintones using the colours in this palette. It is a great mix of shimmer & matte eye shadows. And let's not forget taht it comes with a smudge stick eye liner in the shade Damsel. 10 eyeshadow colours you are sure to use is a bargain at R399 -  you can purchase it via Style36 here - where I might add you receive a FREE make-up bag & 3 Lip Glazes when you spend R450 or more.

This palette is great for when you are travelling as it has 10 shades that can create many looks. When I travel next this is sure to come with me! I will be posting a YOUTUBE video on the different looks you can create using this Stila In The Light palette. Sound good? Well be on the look for it :)

For now, if you want to see each of the beautiful colours included in this palette, be sure to click READ MORE below :)

Kiehl's "Change Your Skin" Challenge

In case you didn't know, I am 1 of 4 SA bloggers involved in the Kiehl's CHANGE YOUR SKIN Challenge. And what is this? Well, Kiehl's has challenged us to a 28 Day Challenge where we document the change we see in our skin everyday while using the Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I love this idea, because you as my reader can see exactly how my skin is reacting to the product. And I get that not all skin types are the same, & that's why I have chosen 5 of my followers to join me on this journey. We will be tweeting & facebooking, & I will definitely be doing a few videos too.

Although they have been in South Africa for less than a year - Kiehls has in fact been around for 161 years!! Yes that is correct. Founded in the New York East Village back in 1851, Kiehl's has always been dedicated to high service standards & developing quality formulations. What i love about Kiehl's is that they offer their customers a "Try Before You Buy" sampling program, giving their customer the opportunity to trial a product before actually making a purchase.

From what I have heard, the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate is flying off shelves here in South Africa! This gives me the sneaky suspiscion that it is amazing, & I am super excited to trial it.

Kiehl's Midnight Repair Concentrate is a lightweight repair treatment.
  • Regenerates, repairs, and replenishes skin for smoother, healthier skin
  • Works with the skins natural nocturnal activity -when skin is most receptive to repairing itself from daily aggressors - to dramatically restore skin
  • 99.8% naturally-derived and paraben-free
  • A customer favorite

I cannot wait to share my journey as well as that of my readers with you all.
If you have tried this product do let me know what your thoughts are.

xx
Brett

Beauty Review: TOPSHOP Nails & Lipstick

YAY!! Finally sharing with you what I thought of the Topshop nail polish & lipstick I bought a few weeks ago! Now I know that you have all seen the lipstick worn sooooo much, but that is just how much I love it!

Below are some of my thoughts, but please do watch the video :)

Name: TIDAL
Price: R69.99 - very reasonable.
Colour: Pale blue. Kinda looks a bit grey, but it is not.
Quality: Long lasting. Doesn't chip easy.
Removal: Easy to come off. Doesn't require a base coat.

Name: Rumours & Lies
Price: R79.99 - very reasonable.
Colour: Burgundy. Got lots of compliments on this colour.
Quality: Long lasting. Doesn't chip easy.
Removal: Used about 8 cotton pads for both hands. Definitely requires a base coat. Nails were stained.

Name: Pillar Box
Price: R69.99 - very reasonable.
Colour: Red. Love love love!
Quality: Long lasting. Doesn't chip easy.
Removal: Same as burgundy. Lots of cotton pads used. Needs a base coat.

I absolutely love this lippie like you have no idea! It is a matte purple-burgundy colour "Inhibition" that is just delicious! It costs R119 which I think isn't the cheapest, but is is so worth it! I would buy this over MAC. Love!!!

The SASSYCHIC Shopping Experience

Recently I got the opportunity to shop a local online shop - SassyChic! Now those who follow me on social media know that I am a total online shopping addict! Now, while I love Boohoo, eBay & Asos - I am always eager to discover more local online shops. It is easier to shop locally, & there's no customs so that's always great!

So, let me get into my experience shopping with SassyChic... For me, the most important thing with any website/online shop is how easy it is to navigate the site. Sassychic is great like that, you can clearly see the different categories/designers/new stock you can shop. Another thing I think is great is the "How To Shop" page on the site. Not everyone is an online shopping pro like myself, so it's good to have a clearly marked area where a new customer can understand exactly how shopping on your site will work.

Sassychic has almost 30 brands available on the site. These brands range from fashion, accessories, bags, & lingerie - and include Mishah Designs, Blackcherry Handbags, Wonderbra, Triumph, Blacklisted, & Spilt Milk. If you want to support our local brands, this is a great place to find a few. The only thing I feel SassyChic is missing, is a bigger variety of shoe brands - you know I love my shoes!

And what did I buy? Well, I happened to be spending an evening chatting to my sister while I shopped SassyChic - & being the awesome big sister I am, I got her to choose some stuff as well. We are absolute polar opposites in terms of our style, & everything in general really. This is a mix of some of what we chose.

Dear Heart Stripe Tee - buy here.

Blackcherry Handbags quilted, chain strap bag - buy here.

RUBY soft cup lace bra - buy here. (I LOVE RUBY!!!)
Wonderbra NVPL thong - buy here

Delivery is free to all Post Offices' nationally, no matter the size of your order. And courier delivery is free on all orders over R275. My order was just under R800, so I had the courier option. My goodies arrived within 4 days of placing order. That's pretty good.

Have a look at the SassyChic online shop here.

Happy Shopping loves!
Brett

Window Shopping with All4Women

When I was first alerted to this Window Shopper feature on the All4Women website - I was absolutely excited. My life really seems to be getting busier as the days go by, & not that I am complaining, but I really get frustrated when I go out with the intention of buying something in particular & cannot find it in a reasonable time. Spending 3 hours of endless walking & coffee breaks until i find what I am looking for is not my idea of time well spent.

The WindowShopper feature gives you access to merchandise (including pricing) from:
  •  Mr Price
  • Woolworths
  • Foschini
  • Fashion Express
  • Chic Shapewear
  • Edgars
  • Ackermans
  • Luella
  • Donna Claire
And the list goes on. You can literally "window shop" everything from the comfort of your computer screen: Handbags, dresses, shoes, accessories, jackets, even lingerie. And it is updated daily. But what I love most about this is that by simply searching "shoes" & not restricting the retailers to search within, I am exposed to stores I would normally not go into when in the mall.

For example, I almost never go into Fashion Express, but by using WindowShopper I have found shoes that I would absolutely go out & buy tomorrow. Like these fab wedges! Only R200 :) Or the skull embellished loafers below!

To have a look at this modern feature designed to make our lives easier, go here.

NEW IN: Melissa Shoes!!!

As soon as these babies arrived, I could not wait to put them on! Melissa Shoes sent me these gorgeous gorgeous heels & seriously guys, even before you lift the lid off the box, you get the sweetest candy floss / marshmallow smell that is soooo yummy & enticing! So, other than the fact that I find them absolutely delicious, here are a few reasons why I think they are AMAZING!

1. They're cute & funky - I especially love the Rainbow collection which includes both pairs of shoes pictured above. The collection includes many other colors & styles, see them here
2. Free delivery & returns if you order from Melissa South Africa online shop. Yep, Im sure this one has you sold!
3. They're easy to clean. A little soap & water  does the trick.
4. They're comfortable. Melissa shoes are made from the company's signature MelFlex rubber technology which helps make the shoes more comfortable & flexible. I usually use the gel inners in my heels so that on a night out my feet are able to survive. This is not necessary with Melissa shoes. I walked around the house last night for over an hour in the pink heels & my feet were perfectly fine.
5. They're green - made from recyclable plastic, the company is known for exceeding Fair Trade benchmarks. And if you remember I was reading Eco-Chic by Matilda Lee, so I am all for sustainable fashion. Brands like this are vital in setting an example to other major players in the industry.
6. Designer collaborations with Jason Wu & the avant grade queen Vivienne Westwood.

I have you sold don't I?! Lol. Well then the next step is for you to visit the Melissa SA online store here. And if you are lucky enough to live in Johannesburg - get down to Eastgate to the pop-up store on the ground level close to the Ster-Kinekor Cinema.

If you decide to get a pair or 2, let me know. Comment. Tweet. Email. Or Facebook!
Until then, you'll see me sporting these in upcoming Outfit Posts :)

Review: Moroccan Oil Restorative Hair Mask "REPAIR"

I regularly color my hair (black) and so it tends to be quite dry. Along with the dryness, split ends seem to be my worst nightmare as well. The other day I popped into Terry Scott Hair Salon at Musgrave Centre & this is what they suggested, the Moroccan Oil Restorative Hair Mask "REPAIR". I have used this product once & immediately saw the difference in my hair. It was much softer & not as dry as before. And did I mention it smells like heaven?! Haha yeah i said it - HEAVEN!

I shampooed like normal, but instead of using a conditioner I used this hair mask. I left it on my hair for about 10 minutes before rinsing it out. I then proceeded with my normal routine of towel drying, blow drying & then using my GHD to flat iron.  I usually use a volume mousse on my hair after I towel dry but didn't this time, so that I didn't have any extra product in my hair, which may have affected the way it looked or felt. Come to think of it, I didn't even use heat protector. Oops!

I know I've only used this product once but I really liked it. I am going to continue using it, and will definitely keep you posted on the health of my hair. I would absolutely repurchase this which says a lot.

Have you tried it? If so, please let me know what you think.
Otherwise, just let me know what you think of my review.

Memoirs of a Geisha

The heart dies a slow death. Shedding each hope like leaves, until one day there are none. No hopes. Nothing remains.

Today I watched one of my all time favourite movies, The Memoirs of a Geisha. No, I have not read the book, and yes, I hear it is better, but I still love this movie for so many reasons. I find it so inspirational in the sense that someone so young can dream a dream so big, and aspire to live a life that in her time was a fairytale. For me, this movie is a clear example that we directly influence our destiny by the choices that we make. But our course may also be drastically altered by outside forces. A life can be moved in a new direction by a person, a word, a thought, or a deed. Some of these occurrences are very profound and sobering but most of them are trivial and ephemeral. Like a pebble thrown into a pond, a small thing sends out many ripples.

The Memoirs of a Geisha is a movie that overflows with many magical moments, but the most magical moment, comes when a little girl meets a man whose kindness proves to be life transforming. For this little girl, this act comes at a time when she is feeling lonely, hopeless, and helpless. The man's unexpected care becomes a gift of hope and new direction.

So, as inspired as I am feeling in this moment, I would like to share with you some beautiful Kimono inspired bridal couture by Culture Bridal Couture.

Have a beautiful Sunday.
