Next Direction

Just sneaked out across country to catch an opportunity, having one of my dreams come true, exactly two weeks ago. And turned out the result did not go as well as I expected. But, thankfully my boyfriend reminded me this phrase from the book Become a Better You by Joel Osteen,

"Out of our greatest rejection comes our greatest direction. When you come to a closed door, or something doesn't work out in your life, instead of seeing that as the end, regard that as God nudging you into a better direction."

I guess there is no reason for me to give up and stop believing that something greater is coming my way.

Sheer Tights & the Kate Middleton effect!!

As the British obsession with Kate Middleton continues, the latest news from brands desperate to be mentioned in the same sentence as the Duchess of Cambridge, is that Kate is responsible for a huge rise in the sale of sheer hosiery. Selfridges is reporting a 40% increase in sales of sheer tights since this time last year, while TightsPlease are doing even better, with a 90% increase in sales of their Kate Middleton style nude tights.

For Kate Middleton herself, of course, shiny, sheer tights have absolutely nothing to do with fashion: theyre purely a matter of royal protocol, which dictates that female members of the royal family should always wear hosiery, and closed-toe shoes.  Its always possible that Kate would chose to always wear tights anyway, regardless of that fact, but it has to be noted here that she is operating under a very different set of rules from most of us.

Of course, there was a time when bare legs were seen as a serious fashion faux pas. That time wasnt even particularly long ago: in fact, any time we write about the issue of tights with sandals, we can guarantee well get a selection of comments from women who were raised to believe that a lady never goes bare-legged, and who cant imagine deviating from that rule, especially in the workplace. So if, indeed, sheer hosiery is making a comeback, its just one more example of fashion coming full-circle.

Perhaps its true that Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and her sister, Pippa Middleton wearing sheer hosiery has shed new light on the garment and will inspire women to start wearing hose, but lets not exaggerate. I highly doubt that Sarah Jessica Parker has been photographed recently in nude hosiery because of the Middleton sisters. Is it not possible that in a sign of modesty she wanted to cover her legs like countless other women do every day and like many royals and politicians have done for centuries?

Its also important to note that fashion is a business and so, for example, season after season pants will get slimmer and slimmer until everyone and their mother owns slim, cigarette pants and suddenly youll notice that the trend reverses and its all about the wide leg pantuntil everyone owns wide leg pants and the trend will once again reverse (or go up and become a high-waist, wide leg trend.) In the same vein, last season it was all about printed and vibrantly colored hosiery, so I deem it unlikely that this new found focus on matte and shiny nude-tone sheer hosiery is coincidental.

What do you think?

Beyonce's Baby-Bump Style

Ok so Beyonce shocked everyone, and became the official highlight of the 2011 VMAs when she revealed that she was pregnant. Talk about a publicity stunt! But let's not hate here, cos if I was Beyonce I would announce my pregnancy with millions of people watching too. True story.

I just loved the way Beyonce dressed her baby-bump. She wore an elegant, draped Lanvin dress on the black carpet, and how can we not forget the stunning Dolce & Gabbana tux from the Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011 runway! Can't decide which is better, can you?

Kardashian Kollection?!

So the Kardashian sisters have attached their name to yet another clothing line..This time with with Sears, and it's called the Kardashian Kollection! Don't get me wrong, I really like their style and all. But it does become alil tired when they keep attaching their name to products & clothing brands.

On a positive note, I really loved the way these sisters dressed to the launch party for the Kardashian Kollection with Sears. One can seldom fault them on their style!

??

Loving Khloe & Kim in leopard print. But Kourtney looks uper cute in this nude feminine frock!
??

But what I found really interesting when reading up on this Kardashian Kollection is that the collection is making headlines for a bag that looks oh so similar to a standout piece from the Botkier Fall 2009 collection hhmmm? The Kardashian Kollection produced the leopard bag on the right, and the black leather bag on the left was designed by Botkier in 2009. The question on my mind, and Im sure yours is 'Did the Kardashians copy the Botkier bag?'

According to Botkier, yes they did. Botkier realeased this statement:
"We just discovered how our Botkier 'Clyde' was simply copied by Kardashian Kollection for Sears. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery but we don't think so.."  Their point is a valid one, but the fact remains that most people who wear Botkier arent likely to head to Sears for the Kardashian Kollection, and thus they arent losing any potential consumers. So who cares?

I love the Kardashian Kollection Ad Campaign pictures! They were shot by the legendary Annie Leibovitz!

Designer Nicole Miller*

American fashion designer Nicole Miller caught my eye the other day when I posted my Look of the Week: Nicole Scherzinger. And then I thought to myself, why have I not posted anything about this designer before, it's not as if I didn't know who she was?! And so, here we are.

Nicole Miller's signature style has historically been black or boldly coloredwith the cut of the clothes most important. Her main concern has always been proportions, curves and necklines. Her designs are known to be sexy, yet classic. Her styles range from body-conscious cocktail dresses, to wedding attire, to lounge wear, but she is best known for her form-flattering dresses. Miller draws inspiration from a wide range of influences including cinema, contemporary art, mid-20th century cinema, contemporary art, mid-20th century architecture and exotic cultures.

I love her work, and it's no suprise she has just over 20 boutiques all over the United States. Below are a few pieces from Miller's collection.

This jumpsuit is just to die for!!!
